A Dog's Got To Howl
At The Moon
In February 2005, one Sunday morning, the comic strip
"Blondie" had Daisy the dog howling to get outside. For some reason, when I
read this strip, the phrase "a dog's got to howl at the moon" occurred to me.
The song started out being about a dog, really, but it quickly evolved into
something else. Wrote it at the piano in a day, though it took a little longer
to come up with exactly the right words for the second verse: "A beautiful
sight, celestial delight".
Now most of the time it suits me just fine To sit in the corner and croon, But now and again --- you never know when --- A dog's got to howl at the
moon. |
A beautiful sight, celestial delight, As bright as the sunshine in June Has set me aglow and everyone knows A dog's got to howl at the
moon. |
Bridge | A heavenly vista. I just can't resist her, Though sometimes I wonder If she has a sister. Then I imagine if I ever kissed her And that's when the tide starts to rise. |

I've heard people say each dog has his day.
I hope mine is coming real soon. The gentlest of breeds will still have his needs. A dog's got to howl at the
moon. |
Instrumental Verse and repeat

Now I've always been quite calm and serene
But now it's a different tune. A visual feast can bring out the beast. A dog's got to howl at the moon. |
A dog's got howl when he's on the prowl. A dog's got to howl at the
moon (spokent) It's in his
nature A dog's got to howl at the
moon. |
